THE FIRST APPOINTMENT CAN BE FUN 😁!
For the child who has never been to the dentist, we recommend that they first come and watch while their parents or siblings get a dental exam. They are welcome to sit in a chair and observe their family member at any time. For your child’s first visit, we prefer the appointment to be an “Intro Visit”. Each visit is tailored to your child. We will let them sit in the dental chair and have their teeth counted. The hygienist will explain how all of the equipment works.
If they do well with the exam, we will polish their teeth and apply fluoride treatment. We never push them and we want them to leave feeling that they did a good job. All of our staff are parents and are sensitive and understanding of the needs of small children.
CAVITY PREVENTION
Tooth decay is caused by food and bacteria which when left in your mouth, turn to an acid and break down your teeth. Tooth decay is preventable so teaching your children the importance of good oral hygiene is very important. Proper brushing and flossing routines along with regular visits to the dentist will help prevent cavities. Our hygienists will work with your children to show them the proper way to brush and floss their teeth. Fluoride treatments will be done during your child’s hygiene visits.
ABOUT FLUORIDE
Fluoride is a naturally occurring element that can help prevent tooth decay by strengthening the teeth. It can be found naturally in water sources, and in certain foods such as meat, fish, eggs and tea. Most tooth pastes have fluoride in them.
The tooth is made up of closely packed mineral crystals and every day those minerals are lost due to bacteria and sugars. Fluoride helps strengthen teeth by speeding up the remineralization and disrupts the production of acids and bacteria.
THE FLUORIDE TREATMENT
The Fluoride is painted on the teeth. It is recommended that fluoride treatments are done every six months. While fluoride treatment is strongly recommended to all patients, we also respect the beliefs of parents who do not want to have fluoride administered to their children.
